The game had a very big importance for second-rankedGriffin as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Griffin defeated 5th ranked Sokhumi at home 115-107 . Sokhumi trailed by 16 points at halftime and as many as 23 after three quarters before a 39-24 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 107-115 at the end of the game. Griffin made 20-of-23 free shots (87.0 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. American guard Montez Mathis (193-1999, college: St.John's) stepped up and scored 27 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and his fellow American import guard Elijah Buchanan (196-1999, college: NJIT) chipped in 23 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Buchanan is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Griffin's coach used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was American guard Trevante Anderson (185-2000, college: UIC) with 32 points and 5 rebounds and the former international forward Vladimer Tavakarashvili (201-2002, college: Sacramento St.) produced a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Rustavi. Sokhumi at the other side dropped to the fourth place with six games lost. They share the position with Free UNI.
