Regular Season Round 26: Vechta - Heidelberg 72-67

There was no surprise when 8th ranked MLP Academics Heidelberg (12-13) was defeated on the road by second ranked SC Rasta Vechta (21-3) 72-67 on Saturday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when SC Rasta Vechta made 8 blocks. Naturalized Filipino forward Christian Standhardinger (203-89, college: Hawaii) scored 18 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and American point guard Carlos Medlock (183-87, college: E.Michigan) chipped in 11 points and 4 assists during the contest. SC Rasta Vechta's coach Andreas Wagner used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. Croatian guard Hrvoje Kovacevic (190-86) responded with 14 points and 5 assists and American power forward Trent Wiedeman (203-91, college: Georgia South) scored 9 points and 7 rebounds. SC Rasta Vechta have an impressive 14-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 21-3 record having 2 victories less than leader Jena. MLP Academics Heidelberg at the other side dropped to the ninth place with 13 games lost. SC Rasta Vechta will meet Kirchheim Knights (#4) on the road in the next round. MLP Academics Heidelberg will play against Oettinger Rockets Gotha (#3) and hope to secure a win.
