We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Bonn where 12th ranked BBC Bayreuth (11-19) was defeated by thirteenth ranked Telekom Baskets (11-19) 85-69. BBC Bayreuth was ahead by 1 point at the halftime before a 44-27 second half run of Telekom Baskets. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by BBC Bayreuth's players. Lithuanian forward Tadas Klimavicius (204-82) notched 20 points and 6 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and American point guard Eugene Lawrence (184-86, college: St.John's) supported him with 3 points and 13 assists. Telekom Baskets' coach Silvano Poropat allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 19 points by American guard Jake Odum (193-91, college: Indiana St.) did not help to save the game for BBC Bayreuth. His fellow American import forward John Flowers (200-89, college: W.Virginia, agency: Octagon Europe) added 14 points. Four BBC Bayreuth players scored in double figures. Telekom Baskets moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with Bayreuth. Telekom Baskets' next round opponent will be higher ranked s Oliver Baskets (#8) in Wuerzburg and it may be quite challenging game.
