There was a surprise result when tenth ranked Ibbenbueren (3-6) edged on the road higher ranked Salzkotten (6-3) 73-70 on Saturday. Ibbenbueren forced 22 Salzkotten turnovers. American guard Chris Hortman (190-88, college: Wisc.-Stout) orchestrated the victory by scoring 30 points and 6 rebounds. Lithuania Martynas Airosius (190-93) contributed with 12 points for the winners. American guard Bryce Leavitt (193-94, college: Seattle Pacific) replied with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 13 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals and swingman Felix Wenningkamp (195-88) added 16 points in the effort for Salzkotten. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Ibbenbueren maintains tenth position in West with 3-6 record, which they share with Frintrop. Loser Salzkotten dropped to the fourth place with three games lost. Ibbenbueren will face higher ranked Grevenbroich (#3) at home in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Salzkotten will play against the league's second-placed Muenster and will have a slim chance for a victory.
