There was no surprise when 8th ranked Bayer Giants (5-6) were outplayed on the road by fourth ranked SG Schwelmer Baskets (7-4) 92-70. SG Schwelmer Baskets outrebounded Bayer Giants 42-29 including 33 on the defensive glass. Point guard David Ewald (184-99) orchestrated the victory by scoring 32 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Lithuanian swingman Andrius Mikutis (194-88, college: John Brown) contributed with 18 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Guard Alexander Blessig (188-93, college: Rollins) answered with 19 points and American forward Bruce Beckford (203-94, college: N.Carolina A&T) added 14 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Bayer Giants. Bayer Giants' coach Achim Kuczmann gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Newly promoted SG Schwelmer Baskets maintains fourth place in South with 7-4 record. Bayer Giants at the other side keep the eighth position with six games lost. SG Schwelmer Baskets' next round opponent will be Fraport Skyliners II (#6) in Frankfurt.
