Regular Season Round 27: Trier - Duesseldorf 97-94
Date: March 18, 2023
Not a big story in a game in Trier where 16th ranked Duesseldorf (8-18) was edged by tenth ranked Gladiators (13-14) 97-94 on Saturday. However just three-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Gladiators made 26-of-29 free shots (89.7 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was American point guard Jordan Johnson (177-1995, college: UNLV) who scored 39 points (!!!). His fellow American import Parker Van Dyke (191-1994, college: Utah) chipped in 18 points. Johnson is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Booker Coplin (191-1997, college: Augsburg) who recorded 31 points and 6 rebounds and center Lennart Boner (209-1993) added 10 points and 12 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Duesseldorf's coach Florian Flabb rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Gladiators maintains tenth place with 13-14 record. Duesseldorf lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the sixteenth position with 18 games lost. Gladiators will meet higher ranked Phoenix Hagen (#6) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Duesseldorf will play against Muenster (#15) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
