Regular Season Round 12: Hamar - Athena 100-83

Bottom-rankedHamar managed to get a fourth victory, breaking the six-game losing streak. This time newly promoted Hamar won against eighth-ranked Athena 100-83 . It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 17-point difference suggests that Hamar is in a good shape to leave the bottom place. It looked good early as Athena took a 7-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Hamar had a 32-18 second period charge getting the lead and Athena was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 83-100. Hamar dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Athena 's 34. Hamar forced 23 Athena turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Abby Beeman (163-2001, college: Marshall) who helped to win the game recording a triple-double by scoring 32 points, 10 rebounds, 16 assists and 8 steals and the former international guard Emma Hjordisardottir (155-2004, college: Liberty) who added 24 points and 5 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) during the contest. The best for the losing side was American guard Violet Morrow (176-1997, college: EWU) with 25 points and Polish guard Barbara Zieniewska (183-1999, college: CSU) scored 8 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 8 steals. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Hamar (4-8) moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Valur and Stjarnan. Athena lost fourth consecutive game. Athena at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the ninth position with nine games lost. They share it with Grindavik.
