Regular Season Round 18: KR - IR 115-56

The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Reykjavik: KR (#2) and IR (#7). KR (13-2) smashed visiting IR (2-14) by 59 points 115-56. The game without a history. KR led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to IR's 26 and made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. KR forced 23 IR turnovers and outrebounded them 39-25 including a 30-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. KR looked well-organized offensively handing out 39 assists comparing to just 15 passes made by IR's players. The best player for the winners was American power forward Cheah Rael-Whitsitt (180-1998, college: Texas A&M) who had a double-double by scoring 25 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Swingman Anna Magnusdottir (178-2006) chipped in 21 points and 8 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Five KR players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was Bulgarian guard Maria Kolyandrova (165-1997) who recorded 13 points and 4 assists and guard Victoria Kolbrunardottir (166-2006) added 12 points respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. KR have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 13-2 record having just two points less than leader Armann. IR lost ninth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with 14 games lost. KR are looking forward to face Keflavik B (#6) on the road in the next round. IR's supporters also look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Reykjavik Fjolnir.
