Grindavik used a home court advantage and defeated the opponent from Akranes 116-99 on Thursday night. Grindavik forced 20 Akranes IA turnovers. American point guard Khalil Shabazz (183-1998, college: USF) scored 40 points (!!!), 7 assists and 5 steals to lead the charge for the winners and Danish forward Daniel Mortensen (204-1994, college: Barry) chipped in 19 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. Grindavik's coach Johann Olafsson used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Croatian-Bosnian forward Gojko Sudzum (203-1994, agency: Bell Basketball) responded with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 14 rebounds and American forward Darnell Cowart (203-1998, college: Murray St.) scored 15 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists.
