There was a surprise result when thirteenth rankedKiryat Ata (3-8) outscored at home higher ranked Galil Elion (5-6) 85-64 on Monday. Kiryat Ata dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Galil Elion 's 24. Kiryat Ata outrebounded H.Galil Elion 51-25 including a 35-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for American Chris Smith (206-1999, college: UCLA) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Angolan forward Silvio de Sousa (206-1998, college: Chattanooga) helped adding 16 points and 15 rebounds. Five Kiryat Ata players scored in double figures. Canadian guard Marcus Carr (188-1999, college: Texas) responded with 20 points and 4 assists and naturalized Argentinian swingman Lucas Goldenberg (196-1993) scored 6 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Galil Elion's coach gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Kiryat Ata moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with E.Netanya. Loser Galil Elion keeps the seventh position with six games lost. They share it with H.Afula. Kiryat Ata will meet at home higher ranked M.Tel-Aviv (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. H.Galil Elion will play against the league's leader H.Tel-Aviv (#1) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
