There was no surprise when 13th rankedCremona (6-16) was defeated on the road by ninth ranked Umana Venezia (12-10) 87-70 on Sunday. Venezia made 18-of-21 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. Venezia outrebounded Cremona 50-25 including a 13-1 advantage in offensive rebounds. Canadian power forward Mfiondu Kabengele (207-1997, college: FSU) fired a double-double by scoring 23 points and 12 rebounds (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!) for the winners. American Rodney McGruder (193-1991, college: Kansas St.) chipped in 16 points and 7 rebounds. Five Umana Venezia players scored in double figures. American forward Tariq Owens (208-1995, college: Texas Tech) produced 24 points and 6 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) and his fellow American import guard Payton Willis (193-1998, college: Minnesota) added 14 points and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Umana Venezia have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain ninth position with 12-10 record. Loser Cremona dropped to the twelfth place with 16 games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams.
