Second Stage Round 9: Perlas-MRU - Palanga 86-90

There was a minor upset when 4th placed Perlas-MRU (18-15) lost to sixth ranked Palanga (18-16) in Vilnius 86-90. Perlas-MRU was ahead by 10 points after three quarters before a 31-17 charge of Palanga, which allowed them to win the game. They made 26-of-31 charity shots (83.9 percent) during the game. Palanga forced 19 Perlas-MRU turnovers. They brought some defensive toughness making 10 blocks. Perlas-MRU was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. Center Matas Jucikas (205-94) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 27 points, 11 rebounds and 9 blocks (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) for the winners and guard Mindaugas Reminas (187-86) chipped in 25 points and 5 assists. The best for the losing side was guard Margiris Normantas (194-96) with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists and forward Rytis Pipiras (201-95) scored 12 points. Four Perlas-MRU players scored in double figures. Perlas-MRU's coach Arvydas Gronskis tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Palanga moved-up to fifth place. Perlas-MRU at the other side keeps the fourth position with 15 games lost. Palanga will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Perlas-MRU will play at home against Zalgiris II (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
