Regular Season Round 18: VKKM - Zalgiris 94-100

Top ranked VKKM (15-3) recorded its third loss in Vilniaus on Sunday night. Hosts were defeated by fifth ranked Zalgiris (12-6) 100-94. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of VKKM. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 34-17. But VKKM won third quarter 34-21. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded VKKM 47-32 including a 28-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Zalgiris looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The best player for the winners was Tomas Stankevicius (-2005) who scored 29 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard Martynas Jakstys (190-2005) chipped in a double-double by scoring 18 points and 16 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Kristupas Lesciauskas (190-2005) who recorded 27 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and point guard Justas Ziubrys (183-2005) added 27 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Zalgiris have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain fifth position with 12-6 record. VKKM at the other side still keeps top place with three games lost. Zalgiris are looking forward to face higher ranked Saule (#3) in Siauliai in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. VKKM will play on the road against Panevezio and is hoping to win this game.
