Regular Season Round 3: Sampaense - Vasco 92-89

A very close game took place in Coimbra between Sampaense and Vasco. Sampaense (2-0) got a very close home victory over Vasco (0-3). Sampaense managed to escape with a 3-point win 92-89 on Sunday evening. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Vasco won third quarter 16-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Vasco 45-19 including a 15-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Jordan Martin (203-93, college: Missouri St.) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Power forward Helder Carvalho (205-84, agency: Dynamics Global Management) accounted for 10 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side. Point guard Filipe Ferreira (180-96) came up with 19 points and 5 assists and forward Paulo Vieira (192-94) added 16 points respectively for Vasco in the defeat. Five Sampaense and four Vasco players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Sampaense will meet Academico FC (#6) in the next round. Vasco's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Porto to the arena Dragon Force.
