Everything went according to plan when fifth ranked CSU Sibiu (10-6) edged at home 9th ranked Pitesti (7-9) 74-71 on Saturday. However just three-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts trailed by 1 point after three quarters before their 29-25 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Pitesti was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Kevin Hardy (188-93, college: McNeese St.) who helped to win the game recording 16 points and 5 rebounds and international point guard Octavian Calota (186-84) who added 10 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists during the contest. At the losing side Ukrainian forward Vyacheslav Bobrov (201-92) responded with 14 points and 5 rebounds and Serbian center Alexandar Mladenovic (207-84, agency: BeoExcell) scored 17 points (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. CSU Sibiu moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Craiova. Loser Pitesti keeps the ninth position with nine games lost. CSU Sibiu will face CS Energia Rovinari Targu Jiu (#8) on the road in the next round. Pitesti will play against the league's leader Oradea and hope to win that game.
