Regular Season Round 21: GEIG - Alcorcon 65-57

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 3rd placed Alcorcon's (14-6) road loss to second ranked GEIG (16-4) 57-65 on Saturday. GEIG forced 26 Alcorcon turnovers. Strangely Alcorcon outrebounded GEIG 54-37 including 22 on the offensive glass. Julia Fernandez (-2003) stepped up and scored 9 points and 12 rebounds for the winners and Marina Melero (-2005) chipped in 17 points. The best for the losing side was forward Yasmine Sifaoui (188, college: Academy of Art) with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 15 rebounds and forward Gabriela Escorial scored 8 points and 16 rebounds. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for GEIG. They maintain second place with 16-4 record behind leader Coruna. Loser Alcorcon dropped to the fourth position with six games lost. GEIG will meet at home Bonita (#6) in the next round. Alcorcon will play against Picken Claret and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
