Regular Season Round 21: Gijon - Manresa 64-70

The game between closely ranked teams ended with ninth ranked Manresa's (10-10) road victory over 10th ranked Gijon (9-12) 70-64 on Saturday. Power forward Mariona Teixido (180-1995) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and point guard Claudia Gener (170-1999) chipped in 16 points. Manresa's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was Hungarian forward Anna Denes (182-2002, college: FSC, agency: Interperformances) with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds and Canadian guard Merissah Russell (183-2002, college: Louisville) scored 16 points and 7 rebounds. Manresa moved-up to eighth place. Loser Gijon keeps the tenth position with 12 games lost. They share it with Ointxe!. Manresa will meet at home league's second-placed GDKO Bizkaia in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gijon will play against Barakaldo (#6) in Vizcaya and hope to secure a win.
