Very expected game in Malaga where 7th rankedAl-Qazeres (11-13) was defeated by third ranked Unicaja (20-4) 75-68 on Sunday. Unicaja outrebounded Al-Qazeres 45-30 including a 31-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. American forward Lydia Rivers (188-1997, college: Virginia Tech) stepped up and scored 15 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners and swingman Celia Garcia-Panuero (180-1995, college: UIW, agency: Promo Sport ID) chipped in 16 points and 9 rebounds. Four Unicaja players scored in double figures. At the losing side center Nerea Liste (-2003) responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 13 rebounds and Portuguese guard Ines Ramos (164-2001) scored 15 points, 5 assists and 5 steals. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Unicaja maintains third place with 20-4 record having five points less than leader Celta Zorka. Loser Al-Qazeres keeps the seventh position with 13 games lost. They share it with Logrono. Unicaja will meet Zamora (#6) on the road in the next round. Al-Qazeres will play against Sevilla and hope to secure a win.
