No shocking result in a game in Salamanca where fifth ranked Avenida (18-11) smashed bottom-ranked Gran Canaria (3-25) 91-59 on Sunday. Avenida outrebounded Gran Canaria 47-34 including 20 on the offensive glass. American-Israeli guard Abby Meyers (183-1999, college: Maryland) stepped up and scored 16 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and American center Khadijiah Cave (190-1995, college: Baylor) chipped in 12 points and 12 rebounds. Four Avenida players scored in double figures. Mali center Lala Toure (186-2008) responded with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds and swingman Paula Estebas (178-1993) scored 17 points. Avenida moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Jairis. Gran Canaria lost seventeenth consecutive game. They stay dead last with 25 lost games. Avenida will meet Gernika (#13) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Gran Canaria will play against Joventut and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
