Regular Season Round 9: Anorthosis - APOP 89-61

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both eighth ranked Anorthosis and 9th ranked APOP had identical 3-5 record. This time Anorthosis used a home court advantage and smashed the opponent from Paphou 89-61 on Sunday night. The game without a history. Anorthosis led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to APOP's 32. Anorthosis forced 21 APOP turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The game was dominated by American players. Forward Nick Banyard (203-94, college: UCF) stepped up and scored 28 points and 5 rebounds (on 13-of-16 shooting from the field) for the winners and guard Michael Mallory (185-94, college: S.Connecticut) chipped in 19 points and 8 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). The best for the losing side was forward Justin Martin (199-90, college: SMU) with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds and point guard Tywain McKee (188-86, college: Coppin St.) scored 22 points and 5 assists. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Anorthosis (4-5) moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Apollon and AEL. Loser APOP keeps the ninth position with six games lost. They share it with Achilleas K.. Anorthosis will meet higher ranked E.N. Paralimni (#4) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. APOP will play against Achilleas K. (#9) in Kaimakli and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
