Regular Season Round 17: ZTE KK - PVSK Pannon 80-71

Date: February 6, 2016
Rather predictable result in Zalaegerszeg where fifth ranked ZTE KK (12-5) defeated 9th ranked PVSK Pannon (7-10) 80-71 on Saturday. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when ZTE KK made 8 blocks. American point guard James Kinney (187-90, college: San Jose St.) stepped up and scored 26 points for the winners and his fellow American import point guard Darrin Govens (185-88, college: St.Joseph's) chipped in 21 points and 6 rebounds. ZTE KK's coach Tamas Bencze used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Naturalized Serbian guard Marko Popadic (189-89) responded with 26 points and power forward Balint Horti (204-89) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 12 rebounds. ZTE KK moved-up to third place, which they share with Alba and Sopron KC. PVSK Pannon at the other side keeps the ninth position with ten games lost. They share it with KTE-Duna Aszfalt. ZTE KK is looking forward to face league's leader Szolnok in Szolnok in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. PVSK Pannon will play on the road against MAFC (#13) in Budapest and is hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
