Falco torch Szolnok by 31 in Game 5 to seal A Division crown-May 27, 2026
Falco-Vulcano Energia KC Szombathely are the 2025-26 Hungarian men's basketball champions, demolishing NHSZ-Szolnoki Olajbanyasz 113-82 in Game 5 of the finals to claim another national crown for the Vas county powerhouse. The clincher was a one-sided showcase from the opening tip. Falco won every quarter 32-22, 31-27, 28-13, 22-20 and shot 27-of-43 from two (62.8%) and 13-of-24 from three (54.2%) for an absurd 65 percent overall field-goal mark. They dished 25 assists on 40 made baskets, a reflection of the unselfish ball movement that defined their championship campaign. Benedek Varadi (194-G-1995) was the maestro with 21 points (5-of-7 from three), seven rebounds, three steals, and a game-high 12 assists for an extraordinary 43 efficiency rating and +29 plus-minus. Zoltan Perl (195-G-1995) was even more efficient with 23 points on a perfect 8-of-8 from two-point range and 4-of-4 from the line, adding two steals for 29 efficiency. Arnaldo Barea (203-C-1997, college: St.John's) posted 15 points and seven rebounds with three steals, while Akos Keller (208-C-1989) had 13 with five rebounds and Patrick Whelan (195-G-1996, college: William Jewell) added 16 with four three-pointers (4-of-4). Kristof Bognar (205-C/F-1994) contributed seven points and was a +18 in 20 minutes, and Marko Filipovity (204-SF-1996, agency: LHZ Sport Agency) grabbed five rebounds. As a team, Falco enjoyed 24 rebounds and 34 total boards to Szolnok's 24 and crucially, 32 points from turnovers that left the visitors chasing the game from start to finish. For Szolnok, Boris Krnjajski (190-G-1998) battled to 21 points and five assists in 38 minutes despite being a -31 plus-minus disaster. Le'Tre Darthard (193-G-2000, college: Oklahoma) added 18 points (7-of-7 from the line) and Auston Barnes (203-PF-1991, college: Bradley) had 10 with three assists. Tamas Pallai (192-SG-2001) contributed nine points and three assists. But coach Csaba Szoldos' side were outclassed across all four quarters and finished with 21 turnovers exactly the deficit that fueled Falco's transition attack. The 31-point margin reflected Falco's complete dominance in a Game 5 that determined the championship in front of their home faithful. Eurobasket.com All-Hungarian A Division Awards 2026-May 28, 2026
