Second Stage Round 6: Apoel - AEK 70-90

An interesting game for AEK (17-3) which played road game in Nicosia against 3rd ranked Apoel (13-7). First ranked AEK had an easy win 90-70. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Apoel. The game was mostly controlled by AEK. Apoel was better in second period 26-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Apoel's 30. They outrebounded Apoel 32-21 including 26 on the defensive glass. AEK players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. American point guard Tyreek Duren (183-91, college: La Salle, agency: Aspire Sports) scored 25 points and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Slovenian power forward Primoz Brezec (216-79) chipped in 10 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Five AEK players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was the former international guard Andreas Sizopoulos (192-83) with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and American center Callistus Eziukwu (208-85, college: Grand Valley St.) scored 9 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Defending champion maintains first position with 17-3 record. Apoel at the other side keeps the third place with seven games lost.
