We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 9th ranked Ryazan (2-5) was defeated at home by tenth ranked Kupol-Rodniki (2-3) 79-71 on Saturday. Kupol-Rodniki dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Ryazan's 26. Forward Andrey Petukhov (207-86) fired 15 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Guard Maksim Kiryanov (190-90) chipped in 15 points. Kupol-Rodniki's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Guard Viktor Zaryazhko (195-92) produced 16 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals and forward Dmitry Korshakov (201-91) added 12 points and 9 rebounds respectively for lost side. Five Kupol-Rodniki and four Ryazan players scored in double figures. Kupol-Rodniki moved-up to eighth place, which they share with TEMP-SUMZ. Ryazan lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the tenth position with five games lost. Kupol-Rodniki will face higher ranked Samara-SGEU (#4) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
