There was a small surprise when ninth ranked Kazanochka (6-13) beat at home 6th ranked Dynamo NR (8-12) 66-58 on Sunday. Kazanochka dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Dynamo NR's 24. They outrebounded Dynamo NR 43-32 including 28 on the defensive glass. Naturalized Belarusian center Firuza Bekmetova (202-86) orchestrated the victory by scoring 14 points and 7 rebounds. The former international forward Kristina Alikina (187-86, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) contributed with 9 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Kazanochka's coach Aleksandr Chernov used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American center Latoya Williams (192-87, college: Chipola JC) replied with 15 points and 7 rebounds and Canadian forward Tamara Tatham (185-85, college: Massachusetts) added 14 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Dynamo NR. Kazanochka moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Sparta&K MR and Enisey. Loser Dynamo NR dropped to the seventh position with 12 games lost. Kazanochka will face Spartak Vidnoye (#9) at home in the next round.
