Regular Season Round 4: Etha - Apoel 66-87

Another interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Nicosia: Apoel (#3) and Etha (#5). Etha was smashed at home by 21 points 66-87 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. The game was mostly controlled by Apoel. Etha managed to win second period 20-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Etha's 34 and made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. American forward Travin Thibodeaux (203-1996, college: New Orleans) fired a double-double by scoring 22 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) for the winners. The other American import power forward Jalen Henry (203-1996, college: SIUE) chipped in a double-double by scoring 15 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 blocks. Four Apoel players scored in double figures. Apoel's coach Slobodan Subotic felt very confident that he used 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Australian-South Sudanese forward Madut Akec (201-1999, college: Detroit) produced a double-double by scoring 23 points and 14 rebounds and American guard Mikey Dixon (188-1998, college: Idaho) added 23 points and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Apoel have a solid three-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with AEK Larnaca and AEL. Loser Etha keeps the fifth place with two games lost. They share the position with Apollon. Apoel will meet at home E.N. Paralimni (#9) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Etha will play against Achilleas K. (#10) in Kaimakli and hope to secure a win.
