Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Limassol: AEL (#2) and Apollon (#5). AEL (4-0) won against visiting Apollon (3-3) 81-66. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Apollon. The game was mostly controlled by AEL. Apollon was better in second period 20-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. American guard Tray Buchanan (185-1998, college: Emporia St.) scored 30 points and 5 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import point guard Brandon Averette (180-1997, college: BYU) chipped in 14 points and 11 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was American forward Deandre Abram (203-1997, college: Milwaukee) with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 12 rebounds and the former international swingman Grigoris Pantouris (190-1982) scored 17 points. Four Apollon players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. AEL have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 4-0 record behind leader Apoel. Apollon at the other side dropped to the sixth place with three games lost. AEL will play against league's leader Apoel in Nicosia in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Apollon will play at home against APOP (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
