Rather predictable result when second ranked Keravnos (9-1) rolled over 6th ranked Apollon (6-5) in Nicosia 84-63 on Thursday. Keravnos looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The winners were led by American guard Remy Abell (193-1992, college: Xavier) who scored that evening 26 points (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) and the other American import forward Zach Thomas (203-1996, college: Bucknell) supported him with 9 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Keravnos' coach Michalis Kakiouzis felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 16 points by British guard Teddy Okereafor (192-1992, college: Rider) did not help to save the game for Apollon. The former international point guard Stefanos Iliadis (185-1994, college: S.Florida) added 6 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. Keravnos have an impressive six-game winning streak. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader. Loser Apollon dropped to the fifth place with five games lost. Keravnos will meet E.N. Paralimni (#10) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Apollon will play against Etha (#7) in Nicosia and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
