The game between closely ranked teams ended with sixth ranked Anorthosis' (9-9) home victory over 7th ranked Etha (8-11) in Nicosia 77-37 on Saturday. The game without a history. Anorthosis led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Etha to just 4 points in third quarter. Anorthosis dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Etha's 20. Anorthosis forced 20 Etha turnovers and outrebounded them 50-26 including a 20-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. American Shaheed Davis (206-1994, college: UCF) nailed 19 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side and his fellow American import forward Pauly Paulicap (203-1997, college: WVU) accounted for 10 points and 16 rebounds. Four Anorthosis players scored in double figures. Antonis Neofytou (192-2003) came up with 10 points and 5 rebounds and forward Michalis Kyriakides (195-1997) added 9 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Etha in the defeat. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Anorthosis. They maintain sixth place with 9-9 record. Loser Etha keeps the seventh position with 11 games lost. Anorthosis will meet E.N. Paralimni (#10) on the road in the next round. Etha's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Nicosia Omonia.
