Regular Season Round 2: Anagennises - AEL 66-78

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Anagennises in Limassol on Sunday night. Hosts were defeated by AEL 78-66. The game was mostly controlled by AEL. Anagennises managed to win second period 18-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. AEL dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Anagennises' 32. The best player for the winners was American swingman Sara Dickey (177-1995, college: Evansville) who scored 20 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. The former international guard Anthia Papadouri (168-1993) chipped in 22 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Four AEL players scored in double figures. AEL's coach Giorgos Palalas used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international power forward Styliana Velinova (192-2000) produced a double-double by scoring 19 points and 17 rebounds and American guard Grace Stone (180, college: Princeton) added 25 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the hosts. AEL are looking forward to face APOP in Paphou in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Anagennises will play on the road against ENAD in Nicosia and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
