Regular Season Round 19: PAEEK - Anorthosis 80-131

Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Nicosia:Anorthosis (#3) and PAEEK (#7). PAEEK was crushed at home by 51 points 80-131 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. The game without a history. Anorthosis led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to PAEEK 's 20. They outrebounded PAEEK 46-24 including a 35-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Anorthosis shot the lights out from three nailing 25 long-distance shots on high 59.5 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 38 assists comparing to just 20 passes made by PAEEK 's players. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Landrius Horton (193-1998, college: Columbus St.) who helped to win the game recording 20 points and 8 assists. His fellow American import forward Lee Skinner (198-1992, college: Wofford) contributed with 19 points and 6 rebounds (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!) for the winners. Five Anorthosis players scored in double figures. Anorthosis' coach Antonis Konstantinides felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Center Emilios Vasiliou (195-1995) answered with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists (made all of his seven free throws) and Dimitris Gabriel (192-1994) added 18 points (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) in the effort for PAEEK. The victory was the eighth consecutive win for Anorthosis . They moved-up to second place, which they share with AEK Larnaca. Newly promoted PAEEK keeps the seventh position with 12 games lost.
