Qualifying Round Day 5: LITHUANIA - LATVIA 72-75

Latvia earned the first win at the Qualifying Round of the U20 European Championship in Croatia. They held off Lithuania in the intense clash tonight. Latvia thus improved at 1-3 record and caught up with Lithuania in Group E. Latvia went on a 13:0 run in the opening quarter to post a 15:5 lead. They rallied past shocked Lithuania to a 25:15 advantage at the first intermission. The Latvian team maintained the lead well throughout the second quarter. They arrived at halftime up by 11 points 41:30. Osins and Martins Laksa boosted the gap to 16 points at the start of the third term. Latvia enjoyed a 60:49 advantage at the final break. Lithuania went on a desperate rescue mission in the fourth quarter. Eimantas Bendzius opened the final term with five points in a row. Lithuania worked hard to get within only four points with just over three minutes remaining. Augustas Peciukevicius and Drungilas dragged Lithuania as close as one point with 62 seconds left in regulation 71:72. However Celms came up with three points late in the game and sealed the winning outcome for Latvia. Lauris Blaus accounted for 19 points and 11 rebounds in the win. Kristers Zeidaks produced 16 points for Latvia. Augustas Peciukevicius responded with 18 points for Lithuania. Eimantas Bendzius had 16 points in the losing effort.
