Regular Season Round 20: BC Kyiv - Mykolaiv 71-74

Eleventh-ranked BC Kyiv (5-14) gave a tough game to seventh ranked Mykolaiv (10-10). The visitors from Mykolaiv managed to secure only three-point victory 74-71. But their fans expected much easier game. It looked good early as BC Kyiv took an 4-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Mykolaiv had a 21-14 second quarter charge getting the lead and BC Kyiv was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 71-74. Mykolaiv forced 20 BC Kyiv turnovers. Strangely BC Kyiv outrebounded Mykolaiv 46-31 including 31 on the defensive glass. International forward Olexiy Onufriyev (200-82) orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points and 7 rebounds. American guard Justin Love (188-78, college: St.Louis) contributed with 16 points for the winners. Five Mykolaiv players scored in double figures. Guard Oleksandr Lypovyy (200-91) replied with 19 points and guard Pavlo Burenko (188-90) added 11 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for BC Kyiv. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Despite the victory Mykolaiv stay at seventh position. BC Kyiv is currently in eleventh place with a 5-14 record as they suffered their fourteenth loss. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
