No shocking result in a game when ninth ranked Bornova (5-4) defeated at home 14th ranked Tofas (2-7) 68-63 on Saturday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Bornova trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually win the game 68-63. Bornova had a 35-22 advantage in offensive rebounds. American forward Tyler Smith (201-86, college: Tennessee) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and the former international forward Umit Sonkol (206-82) chipped in 11 points and 9 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American swingman Austin Nichols (198-82, college: Humboldt St.) with 24 points and 5 rebounds and forward Inanc Koc (202-79) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds. Bornova moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Karsiyaka and Olin Edirne. Loser Tofas dropped to the twelfth position with seven games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Bornova will meet league's second-placed Galatasaray in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
