Regular Season Round 9: Turk Telekom - Mersin 76-67

Very expected game in Ankara where 16th ranked Mersin (1-8) was defeated by eleventh ranked Turk Telekom (4-5) 76-67 on Saturday. Despite only 9 points difference Turk Telekom tried to control the game. But Mersin won third quarter 20-11. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Turk Telekom outrebounded Mersin 43-29 including 28 on the defensive glass. American power forward KZell Wesson (201-77, college: La Salle) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners and international forward Yunus Cankaya (199-85) chipped in 19 points and 7 rebounds. Turk Telekom's coach Faruk Akagun used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was forward Nedim Yucel (203-79) with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 13 rebounds and American guard Dionte Christmas (196, college: Temple) scored 23 points. Turk Telekom moved-up to tenth place. Mersin lost their fourth straight game in a row. They keep the bottom position with eight games lost. Turk Telekom will meet Trabzonspor (#15) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Mersin will play against Banvit in Balikesir.
