Regular Season Round 9: Balkan - Chernomorets 90-75

There was no surprise in Botevgrad where 5th ranked Chernomorets (3-6) was defeated by third ranked Balkan (6-3) 90-75 on Saturday. The game rather controlled by Balkan. Chernomorets managed to win second quarter 26-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Balkan dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Chernomorets' 50. stepped up with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and the former international guard Jordan Bozov (191-79) chipped in 21 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Four Balkan players scored in double figures. Balkan's coach Petar Klechkov used a eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was the former international center Priest Lauderdale (221-73, college: Central State) with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds and swingman Hristo Zahariev (197-90) scored 16 points. The victory was the third consecutive win for Balkan. They maintain third place with 6-3 record having just three points less than leader Lukoil Academik. Loser Chernomorets keep the fifth position with six games lost. They share it with Tundja and Rilski Sportist. Balkan will meet Rilski Sportist (#6) in the next round. Chernomorets will play against the league's leader Lukoil Academik in Sofia and hope to secure a win.
