Regular Season Round 9: Banvit BK - Anadolu Efes 59-56

Another exciting game took place in Balikesir where second ranked Banvit (7-2) edged by three points 4th placed Efes Pilsen (6-3) 59-56. Despite only 3 points difference Banvit tried to control the game. But Efes Pilsen won second quarter 17-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a good game for American center Lance Williams (206-80, college: De Paul) who led his team to a victory with 18 points and 5 rebounds. Montenegrin-Serbian center Vladimir Golubovic (213-86) contributed with 10 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Serbian guard Igor Rakocevic (191-78) answered with 17 points and American guard Marvis Thornton (194-77, college: St.John's) added 9 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Efes Pilsen. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Banvit maintains second place with 7-2 record having just two points less than leader Fener.Ulker, which they share with Galatasaray. Efes Pilsen at the other side keeps the fourth position with three games lost. They share it with Besiktas and Antalya. Banvit will play against bottom-ranked Mersin (#16) in Akdeniz in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Efes Pilsen will play at home against Aliaga (#11) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
