Regular Season Round 14: UBSC Graz - BC Vienna 74-81

An interesting game took place in Graz where higher ranked UBSC (8-6) was upset on it's own court by eleventh ranked BC Vienna (8-6) 81-74 on Sunday. BC Vienna took control from the first minutes by winning the first quarter 22-17. But UBSC Graz won second quarter 17-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. BC Vienna dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to UBSC Graz's 30. BC Vienna outrebounded UBSC Graz 39-23 including 25 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was Canadian center Russell Hicks (213-85, college: Florida Intern.) who had a double-double by scoring 28 points and 12 rebounds. Montenegrin power forward Sveto Pekovic (202-82) chipped in 17 points and 9 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). Slovenian guard Dragan Miletic (195-82) produced 24 points and 4 assists and Croatian power forward Milan Stegnjaic (204-82) added 16 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Four UBSC Graz players scored in double figures. The victory allowed BC Vienna (4-10) to climb to the ninth place. They share it with St.Polten and Gussing. UBSC Graz who is 8-6 went down to fifth position as they suffered their sixth loss. BC Vienna will meet higher ranked Oberwart Gunners (#4) on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. UBSC Graz will play against the league's leader Gmunden Swans and will have a slim chance for a victory.
