Everything went according to plan when twelfth ranked Crailsheim Merlins (6-7) outscored on the road 15th ranked USC Freiburg (3-10) 93-72. It looked good early as USC Freiburg took an 1-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Crailsheim Merlins had a 31-22 second period charge getting the lead and USC Freiburg was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 72-93. American forward Reggie Fuller (198-86, college: Binghamton) nailed 27 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side and his fellow American import forward Frank Young (196-84, college: W.Virginia) accounted for 22 points. Forward Michael Jost (204-88) came up with 14 points and 6 rebounds and American guard Brian McKenzie (193-88, college: Providence) added 12 points and 6 rebounds respectively for USC Freiburg in the defeat. Five Crailsheim Merlins and four USC Freiburg players scored in double figures. USC Freiburg's coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. The victory allowed Crailsheim Merlins (6-7) to climb to the seventh place. They share it with five other teams. USC Freiburg lost their sixth straight game in a row. They are currently in fifteenth position with a 3-10 record. Crailsheim Merlins will play against USC Heidelberg (#7) at home in the next round.
