There was a minor upset when 6th ranked Utena (1-10) was defeated on the road by sixth ranked Ruta Siauliai (2-10) 72-68 on Wednesday. Utena was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Ruta Siauliai forced 20 Utena turnovers. The best player for the winners was guard Orinta Kavaliauskaite (177-82, college: W.Illinois) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists. Forward Sandra Baliutaviciute (182-81) chipped in 17 points and 8 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Asta Daujadiene (176-73) who recorded 13 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and center Giedre Kirstukaite (190-86) added 16 points and 10 rebounds respectively. Four Ruta Siauliai and five Utena players scored in double figures. Ruta Siauliai maintains sixth position with 2-10 record. Utena lost tenth consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the bottom place with ten games lost. Ruta Siauliai will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Utena will play on the road against Laisve (#4) in Kaunas and is hoping to win this game.
