The game between closely ranked teams ended with 10th ranked Giessen Pointers' (3-9) home loss to ninth ranked Oettinger Rockets Gotha (5-8) 81-87 on Friday. Giessen Pointers were tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Giessen Pointers were plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. American forward Parnell Smith (198-84, college: Buffalo) fired 24 points and 6 rebounds (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!) for the winners. His fellow American import guard Jason Boucher (180-80, college: Grand Valley St.) chipped in 24 points. Oettinger Rockets Gotha's coach Alexander Khartchenkov used a eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Jamaican-American forward Kimmani Barrett (198-87, college: La Salle) produced 20 points and 8 rebounds and forward Felix Rotaru (200-79) added 15 points and 6 rebounds respectively for lost side. Five Giessen Pointers players scored in double figures. Oettinger Rockets Gotha moved-up to eighth place in group South. Giessen Pointers lost their third straight game in a row. Giessen Pointers at the other side, also first year in the league, keep the tenth position with nine games lost. Oettinger Rockets Gotha will face league's leader Ehingen/Urspringschule in Allmendingen in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Giessen Pointers will play on the road against the league's second-placed NBC (#2) having rather not much hope for a victory.
