Undefeated Porto Ferpinta (8-1) recorded its first loss in Coimbra on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by fourth ranked Academica (6-3) 76-71. It ended at the same time the eight-game winning streak of Porto Ferpinta. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 1-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 76-71. Academica dominated down low during the game scoring 42 of its points in the paint compared to Porto Ferpinta's 22. The best player for the winners was American power forward Tommie Eddie (201-82, college: Mississippi) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 14 rebounds. His fellow American import swingman Will Holland (193-87, college: Mt.St.Mary's) chipped in 25 points and 5 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Gregory Stempin (203-79, college: Toledo, agency: Duran International) who recorded 16 points and 8 rebounds and the former international forward Carlos Andrade (197-78, college: Queens (NC)) added 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Academica has a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to third place. Porto Ferpinta at the other side still keeps top position with one game lost. Academica are looking forward to face league's second-placed Benfica on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Porto Ferpinta will play against Lusitania in Angra and is hoping to win this game.
