Regular Season Round 22: Nafta Universitetas - Pieno Zvaigzdes 74-85

NKL top team - Pieno Zvaigzdes (20-1) managed to deliver another win on Saturday. This time they beat seventh ranked Nafta Universitetas (11-9) in Klaipeda 85-74. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Nafta Universitetas. The game was mostly controlled by Pieno Zvaigzdes. Nafta Universitetas managed to win third quarter 18-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Pieno Zvaigzdes won last quarter 25-15. Power forward Mantas Virbalas (204-88) fired 22 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Forward Nerijus Varnelis (200-78) chipped in 15 points and 7 rebounds. Four Pieno Zvaigzdes players scored in double figures. Pieno Zvaigzdes' coach Rimantas Endrijaitis used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Julius Kazakauskas (197-90) produced 17 points and 5 rebounds and guard Deivydas Anuzis (182-92) added 20 points respectively for lost side. Pieno Zvaigzdes have an impressive twelve-game winning streak. They stay at first position. Nafta Universitetas is currently in seventh place with a 11-9 record as they suffered their ninth loss. Pieno Zvaigzdes will meet Erelita-KTU (#13) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Nafta Universitetas will play against Mazeikiai (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
