Very important is a road loss of third ranked Balkan (6-4) against fifth ranked Rilski Sportist (4-6) on Saturday night. Visiting Balkan was crushed by fifth ranked Rilski Sportist (4-6) in Samokov 95-74. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Balkan. It looked good early as Balkan took an 2-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Rilski Sportist had a 24-21 second period charge getting the lead and Balkan was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 74-95. Guard Bogdan Boev (196-82) scored 25 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Serbian forward Vladimir Mijovic (207-84, agency: Alti Sport) chipped in 23 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side the former international power forward Georgi Davidov (205-76) responded with 15 points and 8 rebounds and American forward Dwayne Morton (200-71, college: Louisville) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds. Four Balkan players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Rilski Sportist moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Cherno More. Balkan at the other side keeps the third position with four games lost. Rilski Sportist will play against Chernomorets (#6) in Burgas in the next round. Balkan will play at home against Spartak in Pleven and hopes to get back on the winning track.
