Regular Season Round 9: Vitoria SC - CAB Madeira 81-72

There was a minor upset in Guimaraes where 5th ranked CAB (5-5) was defeated by seventh ranked Vitoria SC (5-4) 81-72 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 15-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 81-72. Vitoria SC outrebounded CAB 46-30 including 16 on the offensive glass. American forward Kyle Austin (203-88, college: Cal-Riverside) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 32 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and the former international swingman Paulo Cunha (199-80) chipped in 11 points and 13 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American forward Frederick Gentry (201-77, college: McNeese St., agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) with 22 points and 5 rebounds and the other American import guard Nathan Menefee (182-85, college: Evergreen St.) scored 16 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Vitoria SC moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Ginasio and Sampaense. Loser CAB dropped to the seventh position with five games lost. Vitoria SC will meet bottom-ranked Barreirense (#12) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. CAB will have a break next round.
