Regular Season Round 23: DniproAzot - BC Odessa 65-61

There was a small surprise in Dniprodzerzhynsk where tenth ranked DniproAzot (7-15) defeated 8th ranked BC Odessa (11-12) 65-61. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 20-13. But BC Odessa won second period 22-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. DniproAzot outrebounded BC Odessa 42-26 including a 29-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for forward Sergiy Gorbenko (200-85) who led the winners and scored 18 points and 7 rebounds. American guard Lamar Karim (178-83, college: So.Poly State, agency: Interperformances) accounted for 15 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side. DniproAzot's coach Igor Chigrinov allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American guard Gary Buchanan (191-80, college: Villanova) came up with 12 points and 6 rebounds and the former international swingman Artem Shvets (203-85) added 15 points and 5 rebounds respectively for BC Odessa in the defeat. DniproAzot has a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain tenth place with 7-15 record, which they share with Halychyna. BC Odessa at the other side keeps the eighth position with 12 games lost. They share it with Ferro-ZNTU. DniproAzot will play against higher ranked Azovmash (#5) in Mariupol in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. BC Odessa will have a break next round.
