Very expected game in Botevgrad where 8th ranked Spartak (2-9) was defeated by third ranked Balkan (7-4) 86-75 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Balkan. Spartak managed to win fourth quarter 18-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Balkan dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Spartak's 30. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Jordan Bozov (191-79) who scored 20 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. American forward Dwayne Morton (200-71, college: Louisville) chipped in a double-double by scoring 11 points and 17 rebounds. Four Balkan players scored in double figures. Balkan's coach Petar Klechkov used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international swingman Hrisimir Dimitrov (197-74) produced 16 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) and guard Alexander Diakovski (185-82) added 23 points and 4 assists respectively for the guests. Balkan maintains third place with 7-4 record having four points less than leader Lukoil Academik. Loser Spartak stay at the bottom position with nine games lost. Balkan will meet league's second-placed Levski in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Spartak will play against Rilski Sportist (#4) in Samokov and hope to secure a win.
