Regular Season Round 11: Beykoz - Akhisar Bld 64-58

There was a small surprise when tenth ranked Beykoz (4-7) defeated 8th ranked Akhisar Bld (4-7) in Istanbul 64-58 on Saturday. Akhisar Bld trailed by 11 points at halftime and as many as 14 after three quarters before a 18-19 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 58-64 at the end of the game. Beykoz forced 19 Akhisar Bld turnovers and outrebounded them 42-27 including 28 on the defensive glass. Akhisar Bld was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Guard Erkan Inan (192-89) orchestrated the victory by scoring 17 points and 6 rebounds. American power forward Gentry Lewis (206-81, college: Philander Smith) contributed with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. American forward Tyrone Nelson (206-85, college: N.Mexico St.) answered with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 10 rebounds and forward Mert Eken (193-87) added 13 points in the effort for Akhisar Bld. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Beykoz moved-up to eighth place in Group B, which they share with Akhisar Bld and Basaksehir. Akhisar Bld lost third consecutive game. Beykoz will face higher ranked Hacettepe Univ. (#3) in Ankara in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
