Regular Season Round 25: Khimik - BC Donetsk 65-68

Twelfth-ranked Khimik (5-17) used its home court advantage to challenge second ranked BC Donetsk (18-5) in Yuzhny on Thursday. The visitors from Donetsk managed to secure only three-point victory 68-65. However their fans expected much easier game. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Khimik. The guests trailed by 11 points after first quarter, but they rallied back getting tie in the second period and winning the second half and won the game by 3 points. BC Donetsk outrebounded Khimik 40-22 including a 23-11 advantage in defensive rebounds. 27 personal fouls committed by Khimik helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of American power forward J.K. Edwards (202-82, college: UNLV) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds. Dominican guard Luis Flores (188-81, college: Manhattan) contributed with 19 points and 5 assists for the winners. International swingman Alexander Kolchenko (198-88) answered with 19 points and Bosnian power forward Edin Bavcic (210-84, agency: Beo Basket) added 9 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Khimik. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Newly promoted BC Donetsk maintains second place with 18-5 record having just -1 point less than leader Budivelnyk. Khimik at the other side keeps the twelfth position with 17 games lost. BC Donetsk are looking forward to face Mykolaiv (#7) in Mykolaiv in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Khimik will play on the road against Halychyna (#11) in Lviv and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
