Bottom-ranked Cuxhaven BasCats managed to get a third victory, breaking the series of nine consecutive loses. This time they won against fifth-ranked Saar-Pfalz Braves 79-74. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 20-10. But Saar-Pfalz Braves won second period 19-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Cuxhaven BasCats outrebounded Saar-Pfalz Braves 43-32 including 28 on the defensive glass. Saar-Pfalz Braves were plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for American forward Deilvez Yearby (198-87, college: IPFW) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 13 rebounds. Center Joleik Schaffrath (206-88) contributed with 19 points and 5 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. American guard Stephen Cramer (188-84, college: Hope (MI)) answered with 23 points and 6 rebounds and forward Robert Cardenas (200-82) added 10 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Saar-Pfalz Braves. Cuxhaven BasCats (3-12) moved-up to fifteenth place, which they share with Freiburg. Saar-Pfalz Braves at the other side dropped to the sixth position with six games lost. Cuxhaven BasCats will play against higher ranked Webmoebel Baskets (#11) in Paderborn in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Saar-Pfalz Braves will play on the road against the league's second-placed s Oliver Baskets (#2) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
